
Bill Martin is a Senior Vice President with Bank of America and is the Chief Risk Officer for Columbia Management Group, the bank's investment management arm based in Boston. In this capacity, Bill is responsible for market risk, credit risk, and operational risk across the active equity, cash, fixed income and quantitative strategies investment platforms within Columbia Management, as well as the bank's Alternative Investment Group (which includes hedge funds, private equity and real estate). In addition, Bill and his team manage the risks relating to the Specialist Equity Trading business on the New York Stock Exchange.
Previously, Bill was Global Head of Investment Risk Management for Invesco based in London, covering 13 investment centers worldwide managing investments in all asset classes: Equities, Fixed Income, Structured Credit/CDOs, Real Estate, Private Equity and Hedge Funds. In addition to his responsibilities in risk management, Bill was directly responsible for the Global Performance Measurement team.
Before moving to the buy side, Bill was the Global Head of Risk Management for the Royal Bank of Scotland Group based in London, where his responsibilities included credit risk management, market risk management, operational risk management, risk-adjusted portfolio analysis, group risk technology and regulatory developments (Basle II). Prior to the takeover by RBS, Bill was the Group Risk Director for the NatWest Group. In addition to his current responsibilities at Bank of America, Bill serves on a voluntary basis as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GARP and as a member of the Board of Overseers at the New England Conservatory of Music.
