GARP sets the standards within the financial risk management community through events, training, library, publications, research, and certifications, primarily the Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) designation.
The Position
The Associate, Business Development, for the Academic Markets is a new position, reporting to the Director of Business Development and will be based in Jersey City, New Jersey. The position will work with marketing staff to formulate and execute strategies to reach the academia, library and information services sectors for the GARP Digital Library. The GDL is the world’s largest digital library dedicated to financial risk management with a unique iReadingstm feature allowing users to download individual chapters of books, saving time and money. The successful candidate will develop, implement and administer sales plans to improve the use and adoption of the library, and contact potential organizational partners like academic institutions, financial libraries, information services, etc.
The individual will also participate in further developing GARP’s presence and position within the academia sector by promoting GARP’s FRM examination program, the GARP Research Center, and other GARP certification programs and activities. The individual will be evaluated by their ability to work with clients and increase the sales of the Digital Library and other GARP services. Competitive compensation will be comprised of a base salary and performance based bonus. Responsibilities
- Pro-active business development by identifying new opportunities within the academia, library, and information services sectors.
- Manage a structured sales process with management: qualify and prioritize prospects, target and establish relationships, identify needs, negotiate and close.
- Provide general support to all Sales activities within group and build effective working relationships within all areas of GARP
- Provide regular reports to Senior Management
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business required.
- Organized team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to extract and formalize client’s needs and to structure a comprehensive value proposition
- Candidates should possess highly developed and effective verbal, writing communication and presentation skills
- Ability to form solid and productive business relationships, to guide client discussions toward specific business objectives, and to be pro-active in obtaining results
- Candidates must demonstrate a basic understanding of the financial services business; exposure to university networks and/or academic curriculum development a plus.

Risk Management Researcher
GARP is a not-for-profit independent association of over 68,000 risk management practitioners and researchers representing banks, investment management firms, government regulatory bodies, academic institutions, corporations and other financial organizations. GARP is the leading professional association for risk managers, dedicated to the advancement of the risk management profession through education, training and the promotion of best practices globally. The recently launched GARP Research Center serves as the driving force for practitioner-oriented research by illuminating future trends and opportunities, supporting and conducting research, and sharing these activities with the risk management community. The Research Center aims to be a recognized bridge between academic research and practitioner use.
We currently have a full-time opening for a risk management researcher working at either our office in Jersey City, NJ or our London, UK office. The position will be a combination of team-oriented project work and research work. Project work will include supporting the development of new resources for GARP training programs and GARP’s certification programs in Banking Risk and Regulation, Energy Risk Management, and Risk Management for Islamic Financial Institutions. Research work will include the development of prototypes of new financial risk management models and techniques.
REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires at least 2 years of experience in financial risk management, a degree (preferably Masters degree or Bachelors degree with strong practitioner experience) in finance, economics, or engineering (or other strong quantitative and mathematical experience). Programming skills a plus. Required skills include self motivation, entrepreneurial spirit, excellent communication skills, and an ability to work independently. FRM is highly desirable.
Salary will be from $100,000 plus bonus, depending on experience. GARP offers a pleasant work environment and generous benefits.

Senior Energy Risk Management Researcher
Based: Jersey City, New Jersey, USA; Houston, TX, USA; or London, UK
Compensation: $150,000 base salary, plus company bonus
Reporting to: Managing Director, Research Center
We currently have a full-time opening for a senior researcher/specialist in energy risk management working at either our office in Jersey City, NJ, Houston, TX or in London, UK. The individual in this position will contribute to the development and delivery of educational and training resources for the GARP Certificate in Energy Risk Management program. Specific responsibilities will include developing and maintaining the program curriculum, writing course and examination materials, teaching training courses, conducting research on energy risk issues, and developing new modules on evolving topics in energy risk. The individual in this position will contribute directly to the strategic objective of building the GARP brand in the energy industry.
GARP is the leading professional association for risk managers, dedicated to the advancement of the risk management profession through education, training and the promotion of best practices globally. GARP recently launched the Certificate in Energy Risk Management program to create a comprehensive understanding of the energy industry and the application of risk management methods to energy-related financial products.
