GARP ANNOUNCES NEW CANADIAN CHAPTER IN OTTAWA, ONTARIO
New York, London, Beijing, September 30, 2008 — The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP: www.garp.org), the leading professional Association dedicated to the advancement of the risk profession, announced today the formation of its newest Canadian Chapter in Ottawa, Ontario.
Alejandro Garcia Canizares, FRM®, Senior Analyst, Financial Markets Department, Bank of Canada, has been appointed Regional Director.
Newly appointed Regional Director Canizares commented, “I am highly committed to GARP and the financial risk management profession. The mission of the Ottawa Chapter is to promote and coordinate the training and education of highly qualified specialists in financial risk management, to increase the qualifications of financial risk professionals, and to foster the development of policy relevant research in support of this training, all this in Ottawa and it surroundings.”

About Alejandro Garcia Canizares, FRM®
Mr. Garcia is a Senior Analyst of the Bank of Canada. He has been with the bank in different postings in the Department of Monetary and Financial Analysis, the Financial Risk Office, and currently in the Financial Markets Department. In his current role he is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and advancement of internal models used to inform decisions regarding collateral policy, asset allocation, and financial stability. Mr. Garcia actively writes and presents domestically and internationally research in quantitative finance, produces and maintains the associated computer code, and interfaces with senior management to discuss the implications of his research for the policy responsibilities of the bank.
Prior to joining the bank, Mr. Garcia was an analyst for 2 years in Estrategias Corporativas, a Latin American investment bank. In this role, Mr. Garcia developed valuation models to support mergers and acquisitions for Latin American corporations in industries such as oil, natural gas, and construction.
Mr. Garcia has a Masters in Economics from Carleton University, and conducted studies in applied mathematics, statistics, and computer science at the University of Western Ontario. Mr. Garcia is certified as a Financial Risk Manager by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP).
